Domain Naming, first off do not buy your name until you have built your home page.
DO Not do as I did and buy a domain name prior to knowing how you are going to build your site, or what your content will be.
I have 3 names that I thought I would use right away and it will be months before I can start 2 of them. They are not site names that will pull much traffic.
Once you research your keywords for your site you will be better prepared for its title.
You might think that every possible title that would fit your business has been taken by some one already. You will be very surprised that just isn't the case.
There are hundreds of different ways to configure the words to describe your site. Even misspelling it can work.
DO NOT request a name search before you have built your home page. There are companies who will do a search for you and say it is available only to snag it out from under you so they can resell it to you.
The Resource page lists reputable companies that will search and even suggest alternate names for you. This service should always be free.
You need to register your own name so that it belongs to you and not the web host company. Do not use your internet provider, it might be free but it is not professional.
If your provider goes out of business you lose everything. Its not expensive to have your own name $12.00 to $35.00 a year. You will have your own e-mail domain and that is much better than a Hotmail or AOL e-mail.
A .com site is the best to have but .net, .org or .info are good also. You are better off with one of these than say .tv or one of the lesser known ones.
Your site name will grow in value and can be worth thousands of dollars down the road. Its almost like opening a bank account and having someone else signing on it if it is registered in another name.
Remember this is your business and address, keep control in your hands.
You will need a web host and a server also. You can get everything together or chose different companies, it is up to you. You'll find my recommendations on the Resource page.
